This year is our 10th anniversary and we wanted to do some unique projects. This has to be one of our all time favourites! We asked Tony to cover some of his, and our, favourite songs that we available on Zunior over the past 10 years. Tony recorded the songs solo and spare. We love it! 100% of the retail sales price of this album goes to the Daily Bread Foodbank.

As a music fan I love finding ways to get behind the scenes of any song. Song Exploder does this really well with in-depth discussions of songs with the artists that made them. I’d love to steal the idea and use it on my favourite songs by Canadian musicians.
"Dark Comedy Morning Show (feat. Toy Light)" In this episode, rapper Open Mike Eagle talks about making the song Dark Comedy Morning Show, along with the track’s producer, Walker Ashby, aka Toy Lig…
Last week on my Six Pack I picked six artists from the Polaris Music Prize long list that I thought would make the short list including my pick for the winner. Then I went on vacation and the short list was announced. Of my picks 4 made it to the short list: YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN, Timber Timbre, Owen Pallett & Tanya Tagaq. I’m really disappointed that The Strumbellas and Rae Spoon didn’t make the list especially because I had picked Rae to win the whole thing. The Six Pack is still out there to be listened to so go hear what I think the Polaris Prize missed and tune in next week for more great Canadian music.
—Fighting to Stay in the Game
The recent news of Gino Odjick being diagnosed with a rare terminal illness affecting his heart inspired people to rally in Vancouver in his honour. This reminded me of Geoff Berner's song “Fighting to Stay in the Game” which recounts Gino's life. The song was performed in 2011 for a special concert called Stolen From A Hockey Card.
Upon the news Geoff posted this on his Facebook page, “Thinking of Gino Odjick today. He’s an intelligent, brave man. They say he has AL (Primary) Amyloidosis and is unlikely to live much longer. The symptoms of his disease are so close to Repetitive Head Injury Syndrome that it makes me suspicious, especially given recent articles in the nytimes casting doubt on even Lou Gehrig having ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). If your kid gets a concussion, get them out of contact sports. No more human sacrifice.”
I find Geoff’s song about Gino inspiring and more poignant than ever. Gino’s fight to stay in the game may be over but his actions will be remember for a long time.
